Jio Platforms has completed the first leg of its IPO process after concluding global investor roadshows. The digital services arm of Reliance Industries is now finalizing its public offer documents for a $3.8 billion offering that could value the company at about $137 billion.

Managing Director Akash Ambani and Reliance Retail Ventures executive director Isha Ambani led the worldwide presentations. The roadshows covered key financial markets in the United States, the United Kingdom, Dubai, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Akash Ambani stated, "Jio Platforms has completed the first leg of the IPO after roadshows with potential investors globally."

IPO Documentation and Approvals

The company filed its draft papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) in June. Sebi granted approval last month, issuing its final observations on August 28. This clearance allows Jio Platforms to proceed toward a listing that is poised to be India's largest stock-market offering. Following the roadshows, the company has begun preparing to file its final Red Herring Prospectus.

Capital Use and Valuation

The IPO will involve issuing up to 27 crore fresh equity shares, representing approximately 2.9% of the post-issue equity. The primary use of the ₹27,500 crore proceeds will be to repay or prepay outstanding borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. Any remaining funds will be allocated for general corporate purposes.

Market Position and Scale

Jio Platforms commands a dominant position in India's telecommunications market. It holds a 39.29% share of the mobile market with about 506 million customers. Its fixed-line connection share stands at 32.89%, serving around 157.9 million customers. The company's 5G Standalone network is the largest outside China, with 26.85 crore customers as of June 2026.

Globally, Jio leads the Fixed Wireless Access segment with roughly 1.5 crore subscribers. This is about 1.5 times the subscriber base of the second-largest player, US-based T-Mobile.

Corporate Structure and History

The IPO marks a significant milestone for the Reliance group. It would be the conglomerate's first public offering since 2008 and the first for a consumer-focused business within it. Jio Platforms houses the group's key digital businesses, including its flagship telecom operations under Reliance Jio Infocomm.

The company's current shareholding is concentrated with Reliance Industries, which owns about 66.4%. Major global investors already hold significant stakes. In 2020, Meta invested ₹43,574 crore for a 9.99% stake and Google invested ₹33,737 crore for a 7.73% holding. Together, Meta and Google own about 17.7% of Jio Platforms. Other investors, including Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, TPG, L Catterton, Intel Capital, and Qualcomm Ventures, collectively invested around ₹74,745 crore for an approximately 15.2% stake.

For the financial year 2026, Jio Platforms posted a 15% rise in profit after tax to ₹30,053 crore. Annual revenue increased by 14.5% to ₹1,46,885 crore. The proposed listing comes amid a busy period for Indian IPOs. More than two dozen have been announced or launched since July 1, nearly matching the 28 recorded in the first half of 2026.

Market expectations point to a potential launch in late 2026, with some observers suggesting an October-December timeline around the Diwali festival. The IPO will proceed to file its final Red Herring Prospectus after completing the roadshows and receiving Sebi's final observations.
